We just LOVE to recycle...
Festival Place was the first shopping centre to operate an one-site Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and Food Digestion Facility turning food waste into grey water.
Aluminium drinks cans are usually recycled into ingots. This is the ultimate recycling process for environmental efficiency and used cans are often recycled, made into new cans, filled and put back on the shelf in just six weeks.
Did you know our Service Area Team sort through over 8,000 bins a year, recycling retailer waste into a marketable commodity which is then sold from site. All proceeds are offset against retailers' service charge.
We recycle over 170 tonnes of glass bottles each year. Glass is 100% recyclable and can be endlessly reprocessed with no loss of quality.
All our cardboard and paper is recovered for recycling and we process over 440 tonnes per year. Paper produced from virgin raw material uses far more energy and water than if we recycle our unwanted paper.
Since 2007 Festival Place has been awarded three Green Hero and six Green Apple awards for our recycling commitment.
Our commitment to reducing energy consumption
Energy consumption - By putting timers on lights, using photo sensitive switches, swapping to green energy electrical suppliers, making our boilers more efficient and reducing the temperature by 1 degree we have saved over 800 tonnes of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere each year.
Suppliers - Over 95% of our suppliers are those who shown their commitment to ethical procurement and business practices.
Our commitment to looking after our world
Waste - We aim to annually increase the amount of rubbish we recycle on-site by continuing to educate our retailers and restaurants via visits, education packs and our site induction.
Water - Each year we save water by placing Hippo bags filled with water in the toilet cisterns that work in the same way as the commercially available Hypo system. We also use waterless urinals and since 2011 have been using collected rainwater within our cleaning regime.
